Questions

Good to know

Straight answers about privacy, AI and how Context Note runs on your Mac.

Is my data really private?

Yes. Everything lives locally on your Mac in a plain, open format. There's no account and no cloud on our side — your notes, tasks and meeting transcripts never leave your device unless you choose to move them.

What powers the AI — and is it private too?

The AI runs on-device — Apple's Foundation Models or a local model like Ollama — so prompts stay on your Mac. It only ever suggests; nothing is changed without your approval. Prefer your own provider? Bring your own API key instead.

Does it work offline?

Completely. Context Note is local-first — the app, search and on-device AI all work with no connection. There's nothing to sign in to.

How does syncing work without a cloud?

Through a folder you already control — like iCloud Drive or Dropbox. Notes are stored as plain markdown, so they stay portable and readable anywhere, with no proprietary format locking you in.

Which platforms are supported?

Context Note is built for macOS first, with deep native integrations — menu bar capture, global shortcuts, Spotlight and more. It's a Mac app to its core, not a web page in a window.
